This is the home page for that car:

<http://majica.net/JNR/jnr.htm>

And this is the ridiculous level to which you can take it:

And the beauty of it...

....is that there are LOTS of them!

The engine was used in the Mazda 626, MX-6, and more importantly, the
Ford Probe GT.

There's an entire 1995 Ford Probe GT on Craigslist right now... ...for
$500!!

It's a very interesting project and if that guy who did it would assist, not
nearly as difficult as it was for him, I'm sure. I'd like to know how much
that carburetor set up cost him. Seems like he did a few things very exotic
that could have been done much simpler. Just hard to say how much those
things benefitted the end result. What did he say, 180hp at the wheels?

Any idea what the stock motor / fuel system yields horsepower wise (at the
wheels)?

My understanding is that the stock KL-DE is about 160, but it can be
fairly easily upgraded to KL-ZE spec and that yields about 200hp.

On a purely horsepower-per-hour-of-effort basis, I don't think I can
really justify the project, but if I can do it for the fun of the
project and do it as a build-up that takes place mostly outside of the
existing car and can be dropped in when much of the work has already
been done, then I like it for the uniqueness of it and for the engine
note you'd get.

Anyone and his brother can throw money and time at a Miata and do a V8
conversion and I can't say that it interests me very much to do what
anyone and his brother can do.

I agree entirely, this car sounds amazing and the motor looks as good as it
sounds with that setup. U-N-I-Q-U-E! or at least rare ;-)

The trick is to install an Allison V-12 and have the hood close...
