If you are referring to the relative lack of problems between this and
some other newsgroups...yeah...they are pretty good cars.

I passed on a Mazda 3 (Basically because there are NO dealers around here)
and went with a Scion tC. I like the tC, but when I worked at a 'Yota
dealer we had a 3 come in, and I liked it a LOT...and the driver's
position was a lot better than in the Scion...

It is alleged that Hachiroku ???? claimed:

The only reason I traded in my '00 Mazda Protegé was because it was a
stick, and my knee gave out, I am unable to use a clutch full time
anymore. This was in December of '02. If the '3 was out a year
earlier, I probably would have gotten a 3 hatchback with the SportAT.
As it is, I got the 6s with the SportAT.

First production run of the first model year... I had a few "issues" at
first, but it's been running fine the past few years.

Definitely a smooth machine!

First production run of a first-year car. I've had a few bumps in that
road. Like having to wait several months for a couple dealer options
to actually be available, only to find out that one of them doesn't
even fit.

They are very relyable machines. What does break is easy to fix.
I had an '89 626 that I bought with 48,000 miles on it in '93.
I ran it up to 200,000 miles. It ws in the shop only 3 times.
Once to replace the exhaust, Once to replace the clutch, and
at 128,000 miles to replace the timing belt and reseat the valves.
I did a lot of work on it myself; replaced the Alternator, radiator,
MAster cylendar (sp), and a few other minor repairs. That's a
very short list of work for 12 years.

I'm a Toyota person myself; almost all I have ever owned. The '89 626 was
a bargain, $150 + $450 for shocks, brakes, timing belt, water pump.

The only thing wrong with the car as I see it is the power band is very
short. It doesn't 'get there' until about 2700 RiPpeMs, and after 3500
you're not gaining much. But I didn't buy it for a Race Car...

That's what the Scion and the Supra are for...

Toyota makes a fine car as well. I decided on the Protege because it
appeared to have all the benefits of a Toyota at less cost. I was right;
the three Proteges we have in the family have been excellent cars.
